Welcome to September’s Technical Newsdesk
We have a bumper Technical Newsdesk this month so, rather than introduce each article – and in the interests of space – let me concentrate on one element: consultations.
At the time of writing, HMRC has just released 22 consultation documents, including those on Making Tax Digital. Some of those consultations are for less than the recommended 12 week period, and many of you will have realised that (again at the time of writing) we are in the middle of summer. So, responding to those consultations will be a significant challenge for our technical teams. This is where you (yes, you) can help. Whether you are currently involved in the work of the technical teams or not, we would be interested in your views on the matters being consulted upon, particularly if you have expertise in the relevant area. Members’ views are vital to our submissions, as we seek to improve an increasingly complicated tax system.
When commenting, please remember that both the CIOT (encompassing LITRG) and ATT are not-for-profit organisations, with the primary purpose of promoting education in taxation. Our key aims include achieving a better, more efficient, tax system for all affected by it – taxpayers, their advisers and the authorities. As such, our comments and recommendations on tax issues are made solely in order to achieve this aim, and are non-party political.
If you do have any observations, please email them to [email protected] (CIOT) or [email protected] (ATT). We look forward to hearing from you
